Semi Retirement of Bill Taylor - The SVA Parade Marshal.

Everyone who has taken part in the Remembrance Parade in London, and other SVA parades, will remember Bill Taylor as the person who has kept us all in step and in line by his commanding presence, which is authoritive and at the same time humourous. Now due to reasons of ill health Bill has notified Dave Powis, (the Remembrance Parade Organiser,) that he will have to resign from being Parade Marshal at this event, his intention for the future is to limit his duties to parades of short duration and distance.  I'm sure everyone will join in sending Bill grateful thanks for his years of outstanding service to the Association and wish him well for the future.
Two names have been suggested for a successor.  More news about this position will appear later.
Added: 20 June 2010.

I received the following e-mail on 15th December 2009. Can anyone help?

Use of Daimler armoured vehicles in the Suez Crisis and Egypt .
Dear Sirs
I am in the fortunate position of being the owner of a 1944 Daimler Dingo Scout car and also a 1942 Daimler Armoured car. Both vehicles have been restored to road worthy condition and are now used for military shows, parades and for poppy appeal collecting through out the south east of England .
In September 09 they were driven to Arnhem in commemoration of the 65th anniversary of Operation Market Garden and have been appropriately marked with the insignia of the Household Cavalry and Guards Armoured Corps.
The private owners of these rare vehicle have clubbed together through the internet group the ‘dingo register’ and I am responsible for the research into the vehicles historic use.
The results of three years of research work are published on:   www.daimler-fighting-vehicles.co.uk
I would be very greateful if any of your ex servicemen would like to share any stories or experiences of interest regarding these vehicles.
In addition we would especially be interested in seeing any photos’ of the cars in service.  Photos can be used to check that we have accurately kitted out the cars as they would have been in the past. And also to sometimes to obtain a picture of surviving cars with there service unit.
Sadly the WD records were mostly destroyed when the cars left service.
Thanks for you valuable assistance
Regards.  Mr Stjohn Ager.  Kent UK.

Information wanted.

A member has been reading the biography of Capt W E Johns, who wrote the 'Biggles' books, and read that after serving at Gallipoli Capt John was posted to El Firdan.  He also spent time at Kubri, Sidi Bishr and Crewe's Post.
We know where El Firdan is but does anyone know whereabouts in Egypt the other three places were?
If you know, please tell me so I can pass on the information to the person enquiring.
(Richard. Webmaster.)
